Proverbs - cute story!

So, tonight we decided to start reading Proverbs, as a family. Evan got to choose which one to read - he picked chapter 31 (one of the longer ones). Boy did it stir up some good discussion with the boys - drunkenness, defending those in need, and the honorable woman.

I love how Proverbs 31 describes the honorable woman - so strong, helpful, giving, respectful, industrious, hardworking - the list goes on - and I love how it never mentions her looks - we talked about how her beauty comes from within and from all that she does to honor God. William even said, "A pretty girl might not be good on the inside."

I posed the question to Collier if looks were important in a girl, and he responded with, "No, but Samantha is a Christian." Meaning that Samantha is beautiful on the inside and out. Okay, let me give some prior knowledge for those of you not familiar with this story.

Collier has been smitten with Samantha - a family friend who we used to live next door to - and in fact this summer he asked her to marry him (in the future, of course - I guess he was trying to secure a good wife now...like he was a werewolf imprinting - yes, that was for all you Twilight fans). Without a doubt this was way too much for Samantha to take in (understandably so), so we had to intervene and make sure they did not spend much time together - they have probably only seen each other 2-3 times since this summer. Obviously that has not stopped Collier thinking about Samantha. He is not obsessive - never talks about going to play with her or ever wanting to call her - I just think he has it in his mind that she is a great girl and is his future wife. And, she is beautiful both inside and out - and will grow to be an honorable woman.

Only time will tell how this story will end. But, one thing is for sure - the boys have an understanding of what makes an honorable woman...hopefully that will make a difference even when all their hormones kick in - eek!
